Dive deep at the Channel Islands Visitor Center where United Electric has helped recreate one of the world’s richest marine environments. Using immersive imagery, fiber glass, and brilliant lighting, the exhibit showcases the magnificent sea life that exists at the National Park. The five story tower leads to the observation deck that overlooks the harbor and Channel Islands.
The tower has been transformed into scenes from the sea, ascending from the ocean floor to the ocean surface, with each level conveying the unique character of its depth. Variation in depth, light, temperature, and current conditions account for a great variety of habitats in the open ocean from sandy bottoms to seamounts. The habitats are connected by free-roaming plants, animals, and nutrients. Throughout the climb you will find interactive messages about the open habitats. The deep sea is depicted on level one with dark purple hues and images of creatures that have adapted to a world that has no light.
Level two, the open ocean, is home to the translucent blue waters that are the foundation for California’s commercial fishing industry. Here is where sharks glide silently and jelly fish float and bob.
Looking up, you are given the illusion of the ocean’s surface.
And finally, when you arrive at the highest point of the exhibit, you are greeted with light blue hues, bright lights, and messages about the shore. All of the habitats are essential parts of the marine environment.
The experience is both beautiful and educational. The visitor center is open 8:30 A.M to 5:00 P.M daily and is located at 1901 Spinnaker Drive Ventura, California 93001.
